OCTOBER 14, 2019

“The moral test of government is how that government treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children..."

Welcome to the October 2019 edition of the #ThePossibilists, our roundup of news about the changemakers whom we help create, fund, and promote new ideas and organizations.

Fall Baseball. Apple Cider. October Surprises.  Here’s what going on with us.

We’ve been busy.

For the first half of 2019, Jim served as interim chief executive officer of the Center for Youth Wellness (CYW) following the appointment of CYW’s founder, Dr. Nadine Burke Harris as California’s first Surgeon General.

He worked closely with CYW’s Board and staff to navigate a founder transition and prepare the organization for its next phase of growth and impact. As a result, CYW ended its search for a new chief executive officer and appointed Jim to the position.

Raising our sites

With new leadership in place, CYW is poised to shift its strategy and programming from movement-building to capacity-building, bringing more of a "wide-angle lens" approach to the organization's mission and vision.

Looking ahead, CYW will extend its work from pediatrics into adjacent provider segments, non-medical service providers reaching parents/caregivers, and community-based organizations that can provide a powerful buffer against the effects of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and toxic stress.

There's still work to be done

Via Hickman Strategies, Sara will continue her work with our nonprofit clients on strategic communications and philanthropy. Jim will continue to advise digital health companies, social entrepreneurs, and grant-making foundations.

Here’s to what’s possible in 2019. Enjoy!
